The Active Investor Plus (AIP) visa often known as the Golden Visa is designed to attract Investor Migrants who seek a pathway to New Zealand permanent residency through investment in areas that help grow the New Zealand economy. This visa allows you to live, work, and study in New Zealand.  

The New Zealand Government has announced that the AIP visa programme will be updated from April 1st 2025 to enhance accessibility while continuing to promote significant investments in the country's economy. For those who are interested in immigrating to New Zealand, this equivalent to a Golden Visa also provides a pathway to citizenship.  

Key Features of the Active Investor Plus Visa

Investment Categories:

Growth Category:  Requires a minimum investment of NZD $5 million (~ $2,865,000 USD) over a 3-year timeframe, with applicants required to spend a total of 21 days in New Zealand during this period. Acceptable investments include direct investments into New Zealand businesses and / or through approved managed funds.

Balanced Category: Requires a minimum investment of NZD $10 million (~$5,740,000.00 USD) over a 5-year timeframe, with applicants required to spend a total of 49 days in New Zealand during this period. Acceptable investments encompass a range of bonds, listed equities, certain new property developments, existing commercial/industrial projects, philanthropy, and any Growth Investments.

Investment Timeframe: The total investment must be made within 6 months of the initial application approval, with one 6-month extension allowed (12 months total).

Residency Requirements:  Growth Category: A total of 21 days over 3 years.  Balanced Category: 49 days over a 5 year period.

English Language Requirements: There is no English language requirement for this visa category.
